Diversity Speaking Series
This series seeks to provide a platform for diverse, underrepresented voices to share their experiences, ideas, insights, and perspectives. This Speaker Series aims to highlight the lived experience faced by diverse individuals and to facilitate discussion regarding how to address these issues in our GB communities. Speakers may be racialized people, indigenous communities, and people of colour, including new immigrants, and the methodology will vary depending on the speaker’s preferences and comfort level. All events will be attended by the Advisory Project Circle members, who will moderate the dialogue and ensure a safe, inclusive, and welcoming space. |
2. Grey Bruce Human Resources Task Circle
Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) at workplaces is not just a program or initiative; it contributes to increased productivity, innovation, and business profitability. Human Resources professionals are central to creating and empowering workplace Diversity & Inclusion practices/policies. Come and join the collective effort about reflecting/acting on envisioning a diverse workplace culture at Grey Bruce. One that is respectful of human dignity and provides each GB employee with the opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to the company and the GB community. 5. Diversity CINE CLUB
Movies, documentaries, and short films offer a pedagogical entry point for many people to engage with meaningful content. They make the perfect basis for fostering important community dialogues around Diversity & Inclusion and social justice topics. In partnership with ALUCINE , we have revisited our project goals and have curated a program that will connect GB Community around films that foster empathy, provoke reflection, and set the stage for impactful conversations. |
3. School of Refl(a)ction
The School of Refl(Act)ion is a co-learning space to have difficult conversations about racism and discrimination. If you are an employer, human resources professional or supervisor from the private and public sectors, join us now! We will critically reflect and collectively act on successfully building relationships and creating positive and meaningful workplaces for racialized people, indigenous communities, and people of colour, including new immigrants. 6. Beyond Unconscious Bias (workshop)
Unconscious bias (UB) is also known as implicit bias or implicit social cognition. UB manifests workplace, school, criminal justice, and health care. Consciousness reflects in conscious values, beliefs, and desired responses. Removing these biases is challenging because we often don’t even know they exist, but we should not worry. We can do it together! An example? A person might have been exposed to negative ideas about new immigrants to Canada. Consciously, this person might disagree with the negative thoughts and maintain an explicit positive attitude toward newcomers. However, this negative information may be stored as associations between negativity and new immigrants. |
